PROGRAM NOTES:
This show marks 2 historic moments in Rock 'n' Roll history-  The first American performance of Led Zeppelin (Dec 26, 1968) and Jimi Hendrix composing "Purple Haze" (Dec 26, 1966).  The first set commemorates these moments, I played some live Zeppelin from the BBC Sessions and a couple alternate versions of Henrdix songs from the Box Set.

PROGRAM NOTES:
The first song is a special request from Mike in Lebanon, whose father, Ron passed away this past week.  Mike had requested "Celebration" by Kool and the Gang in memory of his dad. He told me via email that the song brought back very happy memories of his mom and dad.  Glad to oblige, Mike, your father was always very nice whenever I had the opportunity to speak with him.

The first hour is based on a "Friday the Thirteenth" theme, again, another excuse to dig out a few of the many versions of "I Put A Spell on You" and "Born Under a Bad Sign."  In the second hour, some quiet, indie-rock songs, to decompress during this pre-holiday and college finals season.  Finally, we concluded with 2 side-long songs in the third hour.

PROGRAM NOTES:
This show features 2 Thanksgiving day classics, Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant" and The Band's "The Last Waltz."  "Alice's Restaurant" has been traditionally played ever year by rock radio stations, and that tradition lives on here.  I know you've all heard it before, but there's something comforting to hear this song on Thanksgiving (or the day after!)

The Band recorded and filmed their farewell concert "The Last Waltz" on Thanksgiving Day, Nov 25, 1976.  The film version of the concert was directed by Martin Scorsese, and is claimed by some as "the best concert film ever made."  The film was released in 1978, accompanied by a three-record album.  Tonight's show features music from the 4 CD box set, released in 2002.  The box set contains many songs not released in either the movie, or on the original album.

The Genesis selection, "Supper's Ready" is kind of a Thanksgiving song on a more personal level.  When I first discovered Progressive Rock, I was turned onto this classic Genesis song on a cold November weekend by a good friend of mine.  We spent that long weekend listening intently to Supper's Ready.  This song has since reminded me of Thanksgiving.
