PROGRAM NOTES:
The first hour of the show features selections from "The New Basement Tapes," which are uncompleted songs the Bob Dylan wrote lyrics to, but not music.  A collection of musicians- Taylor Goldsmith (of Dawes), Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford (of Mumford & Sons),  Jim James (of My Morning Jacket) and Rhiannon Giddens (of Carolina Chocolate Drops) got together under the production of T-Bone Burnett and completed the songs.  I selected a track from the album, each featureing a different member on lead vocals, and followed it up with a selection from one of their own projects.  

The second hour of the show features the jam band moe. They recorded a selection of covers of songs on The Big Lebowski soundtrack on the Halloween 2014 show.  I edited together the songs that were on the soundtrack for this show.  The last hour of the show features Frank Zappa and The Mothers on Invention's 1975 release "One Size Fits All."  Dweezil Zappa's project "Zappa Plays Zappa" will be performing a 40th Anniversary of the album when they come to the Calvin Theater in Northampton on April 8th.

The first 2 hours of the show is a tribute to late saxophonist Bobby Keys, most know from his work with The Rolling Stones, who passed away earlier this month.  Bobby was a prolific session musician, and his session work with John Lennon, The Faces, and Joe Cocker (just to scratch the surface) are also included here.  December 18th wouls also have been his 71st birthday.  Included in the third hour is a live recording of Genesis, from 40 years ago this week.  This was recorded on "The Lamb Lies Down an Broadway" tour, the band's last with Peter Gabriel as the frontman.

This week, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles' "Beatles for Sale" album, released on December 4, 1964.  Going through the entire album, track-by-track, alternating with the original Beatles song, and then a cover (or another version of the song, as some were actually cover versions done by the fab four.)  The second part of the show skewed towards progressive rock, with a handful of prog-rock "anthems."
