This week, we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with 2 traditions- first, Arlo Guthrie's "Alices Restaurant" and The Band's "The Last Waltz."  The latter was recorded 40 years ago on this date, and released in album and movie form in 1978.  Tonight we aired selections as the were originally played that night, with no overdubs.  The concert film and soundtrack were highly edited and retouched after the fact.

Also, this week marks the 25th anniversery of the passing of Queen's lead vocalist, Freddie Mercury. In the second half of the show, I played some of my favorite Queen songs.

Tonight's show is a tribute to the late poet and singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen, who passed away last week at the age of 82.  I hadn't been aware of Cohen's work until the early '90's when an album of Cohen covers, "I'm Your Fan: The Songs of Leonard Cohen" was released.  That compilation contained a version of "First We Take Manhattan" by REM, and was a favorite of mine when I had my first radio show at WFCS.  That compilation, along with "Tower of Song" is heavily represented on tonight's show.
